About the artist
Mary has been interested in art her whole life. She has studied with a number of Cape Ann artists and taken classes at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Sailing the New England coast in the summer provides quiet time for reflection and the inspiration for many of her paintings. In the winter, the ever-changing light on the mountains attracts her to the California desert.
Mary loves color and design and the challenge of capturing a mood, the interplay of light and color on the water, the simple beauty of her surroundings:

“I can think of no more enjoyable, challenging, and ultimately satisfying way to spend my time than painting. Every time I contemplate a scene, sketch a design, take brush in hand, it is a new beginning with infinite possibilities. Eyes, hands, head and heart all come into play. No wonder I can spend hours at my craft and emerge renewed.” - MFH
